  Aquatic Ecology
  • Food web structure
  • Freshwater mussel assemblages
  • Nutrient cycling

Dr. Christian's research includes the influence of biotic and abiotic factors on the distribution, food web structure, and ecosystem processing of aquatic organisms. He currently uses freshwater mussel assemblages as target organisms for investigations due to their large biomass, longevity, and sessile lifestyle. His research interest in the role of freshwater mussel communities in aquatic systems includes distribution, food resources/food webs, and nutrient recycling. Additional interests include projecting the role of freshwater mussels in low order streams into larger stream systems.
